Designing at the Intersection of the Physical & Digital Worlds

As UX Manager for Amazon Fulfillment Technologies, I led a multidisciplinary team of designers, researchers, and technologists to shape and simplify the fulfillment center experience through a human-centered design process. Our mission was to bridge the gap between digital interfaces and real-world fulfillment operations, ensuring that every touchpoint—whether software, equipment, or workflow—the technology that associates used for fulfillment center operations was optimized for efficiency, usability, and scalability.

Our work extended beyond traditional UI design to the intersection of the physical and digital worlds, encompassing:

  • Physical environments – optimizing warehouse layouts, lighting, and workstations.

  • Equipment interactions – improving ergonomics and usability for handheld scanners, packing stations, and automation tools.

  • Work processes – streamlining end-to-end workflows to reduce cognitive load and improve efficiency.

To unify the fulfillment center experience, we launched a scalable Design System that provided engineering teams with standardized UX components for:

  • Visual UX – enhancing interface consistency and usability.

  • Haptic UX – optimizing touch-based interactions for speed and accuracy.

  • Environmental UX – improving usability in variable lighting, noise, and warehouse conditions.

By bridging digital interfaces with real-world workflows, we streamlined operations, reduced cognitive load, and created a more cohesive and efficient fulfillment experience.

Foundational Contributions to Amazon Robotics UX

In addition to leading fulfillment UX, I was one of the earliest members of the Amazon Robotics UX team, where I contributed foundational UX program thought leadership. This work helped shape the future of human-machine interaction in highly automated warehouse environments, ensuring that technology not only augmented human capabilities but also integrated seamlessly into fulfillment workflows.
